Launched in 2011, Wistmosa Wines is a family based business aiming to introduce quality wines to interested people at affordable prices.

Our motto “enjoy with good food and great friends” says it all. Wine is about people; coming together and sharing good wine with good food – in the company of great friends old and new!

Developed by husband and wife team Steve & Sadie Gomer, Wistmosa Wines reflects our passion for growing a quality product in our California Road vineyard and from it, producing high calibre wines.

Sadie, (formerly Sadie Sage), grew up on her parents’ “Mirooloo” vineyard in Eden Valley. She comes from a family that were amongst the pioneers of vineyards, wineries and orchards in the Angaston region of the Barossa Valley, along with some of the first grape growers in McLaren Vale.

Steve has a background in chemistry and metallurgy and initially worked in the fertiliser and mining industry. In the mid 1990’s he left this and worked at Mountadam and Hillstowe wineries. In late 1997 a decision was made to return to the mining industry to pull together the finances to purchase their own vineyard. This aim was realised in 2006 with the purchase of the ‘Boots Hill’ (Shiraz) vineyard in McLaren Vale.

Then in 2011 the larger vineyard on California Road was purchased and ‘Boots Hill’ was sold. The new vineyard is planted to both Shiraz and Grenache.
It must be destiny because ‘Boots Hill’ was sold to a Vale Cru member and the property we bought was next door to another!

The Wistmosa name is made up from the first two letters of the names of our four family members (William, Stephen, Morgan and Sadie). The goanna on the label was developed from a 400kg black granite goanna sculpture created by Silvio Apponyii.  This sculpture is magnificent and sits proudly in our front garden.

The long-term goal is fairly simple; to have a range of small batch, quality wines to share with people in an on-site cellar door and for purchase through selected wine stores and restaurants.

“Our wines are hand crafted and intended to be enjoyed with good food and great friends!”
